A excerpt from the Hartford Courant in Connecticut: A simple metal ring was the seed from which grew a Middletown firm that by the late 19th century was America’s biggest marine hardware manufacturing enterprise. Six decades later, in 1945, that firm, Wilcox, Crittenden & Company, was producing more than 8,000 different items, from which, according to author John T. Wilson in the article “A Century of Service,” it would be possible “to equip virtually any type of boat, with the exception of the engines themselves, from stem to stern.”
