Extremely nice original ship's binnacle from the 1800s. Contains original operational compass with working illumination installed so it does not affect the integrity of the piece. Brass and oak construction. Brass plate on front reads: Sestreline - Henry Browne & Son; Station Works, Barking Essex; Type No 90440. The historical compass binnacle ‘Sestrel’ is a magnificent example of a nautical navigation instrument for larger sailing yachts and commercial ships. The compass binnacle and hood assembly (with sliding peep panels) are in very good age-related condition with minor traces of wear and use. The compass face is a brightly polished and waxed brass while the remaining brass and wood holds a clear coat. The binnacle with (incline gauge) stands 53" tall by 29" wide, on a 22" square base.
