Engine Order Telegraph, circa late 1800’s, Durkee Marine Products Corp., Staten Island, NY
This is a rare example of a little know manufacturer of Engine Order Telegraphs from Staten Island in New York City. She's very complete and has been gently restored by the artisans in our workshop. Her annunciation handles ring the engine order bells and original boatswain Turk's Head knot work is still intact. She's clean and stands proud on her custom stand.
It's a rare piece that was in actual use for probably 50 or 60 years. It was modified early last century for electricity (see electric box on side) and has several Turks Heads knots decoratively added on each handle. She probably came from a commercial near coastal freighter, but provenance on that is not available.
