US Navy Brass Bell, "Ash Lighter - 1915 #43", Mounted.
Regular price $3,600.00
Ash Lighters were non-motorized barges built for the US Navy from the early 1900's through WWII. They were multifunctional and could carry up to 60 tons of gear. These barges were used as diving platforms and were frequently moored above sunk vessels to assist with salvage and diving operations. This massive 14", heavy, solid brass bell is mounted on a hard wood stand with salvaged fire nozzle uprights dated from WWII, probably when Ash Lighter Barge #43 was salvaged. The mounting stand is 36" long by 39" high and has the proud American Eagle atop it. The original clapper is intact and she rings loud and clear. This is the only known example of this type bell to exist today. A collector's dream! Inventory # 0064.
