This impressive model half hull, rarely seen at such a large scale, was traditionally utilized by naval architects and marine engineers to study displacement, hull speed, load weights, and more. It helped determine the initial placement of decks, bulkheads, tanks, and voids—essential information before floating a vessel.
The model appears to date from the 1940s or 1950s. With the advent of CAD programs and similar software, such physical models are no longer used by naval engineers and architects.
Upon close inspection, you can see evidence of multiple uses as a preliminary drawing, with layers of paint indicating different design approaches. Despite our careful examination, we could not identify the specific vessel or original design details for which it was created.
