Lamp, Perko Hooded, WWII Victory Ship, Stern Light
Lamp, Perko Hooded, WWII Victory Ship, Stern Light
This is a rare, complete, WWII Perko stern light from the Victory Ship SS/USS Diamond Head. The Diamond Head was completed right at the end of the war and was laid up until the early 1950's in the reserve fleet. In the early 50's she was sent to the yard and reconfigured as a ammunition ship and she went on to serve during Korea and Viet Nam. She was sent back to the reserve fleet in the 70's and decommissioned for good several years later.
She stands 20" tall by 18" wide at the hood and 12" wide at the base.
This very heavy light is made by Perko as denoted by the original brass manufacturer's emblem on the hood. The hood served the purpose of masking the light from enemy aircraft, but allowed ships following astern to see the navigation light, The light is complete with a near perfect Fresnel lens and the original oil pot,.
