Beautiful original oil painting by Captain R.E. Ryder (British Active 1880-1900). The "Majestic" depicts the cutter "Majestic", a Tamar barge of the type active on the south coast of England. These barges were used for the carriage of stone and other goods from the quays on the River Tamar to West Bay, Kingsbridge, Fowey and other ports.
Similar works by Ryder are on display in the Jersey Museum and Art Gallry in the Channel Islands, the Plymouth Museum and Art Gallery and the National Trust Collection in Cornwall.
