This is an original 37×145R M16 artillery shell casing, manufactured in 1918 by the Pennsylvania Electric Manufacturing Company (P.E.M.Co.) for the U.S. Army’s 37mm M1916 “1-Pounder” gun. These light field and infantry guns were among the first small artillery pieces deployed by American forces during World War I.

Headstamp markings:

  • “37 MM LOT 74 1918”

  • “A.M. LOT 21”

  • “457 IN. SUR. CH. 19”

  • “P.E.M.CO.”

The casing is fitted with an inert, non-functional projectile, giving the appearance of a complete round. It has been professionally polished, showing off the crisp headstamp and smooth lines typical of early-20th-century U.S. ordnance.

Specifications:
• Caliber: 37 mm
• Overall length: 9.25 inches (235 mm)
• Diameter: 1.75 inches (44 mm)
• Material: Brass casing with polished projectile
• Condition: Excellent – no corrosion, clear markings, inert (completely safe)

This piece makes an outstanding WWI display item, militaria collectible, or desk ornament, representing a pivotal moment in U.S. ordnance history.

⚠️ Inert – Contains no explosive or propellant components. Safe for display
