An authentic early 20th-century folding marine bulkhead seat manufactured by Wilcox, Crittenden & Co. of Middletown, Connecticut, one of America's most respected marine hardware manufacturers.
This unusual shipboard seat features a cast aluminum circular seat supported by a heavy brass folding mechanism. Designed to mount to a bulkhead, engine room wall, chart room partition, or other vertical surface aboard a vessel, the seat folds down for use and secures upright when not needed, conserving valuable space aboard ship.
The seat retains the distinctive intertwined "WC" Wilcox, Crittenden & Co. foundry mark cast into both the aluminum seat and brass hardware. The use of corrosion-resistant brass and lightweight aluminum reflects the company's focus on quality marine applications.
An uncommon piece of American maritime history with strong appeal to nautical collectors, yacht owners, maritime museums, and decorators seeking authentic shipboard furnishings.
