Vintage Wooden Fid

This is a vintage wooden fid, measuring about 12 inches long. Such tools were essential aboard ships for working with rope — the marlinspike typically used for splicing wire rope, and the fid (often wooden) for working with larger rope and canvas, opening strands for splicing, or setting knots.

The tapered, rounded design and wear patterns on this example suggest it saw genuine use. The wood shows age-appropriate patina, surface marks, and tool scars — evidence of its working life at sea. This would be a fitting addition to any maritime tool collection or nautical display.
