An authentic U.S. Navy Mark VIII Mod. 3 Boresight Telescope, a specialized optical instrument used for the alignment and calibration of naval guns, fire-control systems, and sighting equipment. Constructed of brass with precision adjustment controls, this instrument represents the sophisticated optical technology employed aboard U.S. Navy vessels during the World War II and early Cold War periods.

The telescope is housed in an attractive fitted wooden case with felt-lined supports and a mounted identification diagram illustrating the instrument's controls and operation. Military markings remain visible on the body, including the designation "Mark VIII U.S.N. Mod. 3."

Condition
Very good condition. Brass surfaces display expected age-related wear and patina consistent with military use and age. Adjustment controls remain present and functional. Internal reticle/crosshair is visible when viewed through the eyepiece. Optics appear largely intact, though no formal optical testing has been performed. Historical Note
Boresight telescopes were critical maintenance instruments used aboard naval vessels and in shipyards to align fire-control equipment and gun systems.
