Original U.S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance Anti-Aircraft Range Indicator, manufactured in 1943 by The A.C. Gilbert Company of New Haven, Connecticut. This handheld optical tool was issued to Navy gunners for aircraft recognition and range estimation during World War II.
The front shows adjustable sighting arms with wing span references for identifying German, Italian, and Japanese aircraft (e.g., Messerschmitt 109/110, Focke-Wulf 187, Junkers 87/88, Heinkel He-111, Savoia S-79, Type 97 VB). The back features the Navy ordnance tag with contract details and instructions to “Hold 24 Inches From Eye.”
