This authentic U.S. Navy wardroom napkin ring comes from the USS Stanly (DD-478), a Fletcher-class destroyer that earned 8 battle stars during World War II.
The ring is engraved:
“COMMUNICATION OFFICER – U.S.S. STANLY”
Historical Significance
Napkin rings were standard in officers’ wardrooms, used to reserve each officer’s napkin and seat during meals at sea. This example belonged to the Communication Officer, a critical role aboard destroyers, responsible for managing signals, coding/decoding messages, and maintaining secure communications — essential duties during combat operations.
The USS Stanly served with distinction in the Pacific theater, taking part in major battles and operations including Bougainville and the Battle of Kula Gulf.
