"Fog Over Bloody Point Bar" by John Morton Barber

This a signed, numbered and framed lithographic collector print by John Morton Barber. This print is number 642 of 950 and comes with its original Certificate of Authenticity (CoA), which is stored in an envelope attached to the back of the print.

This print depicts the skipjack Nellie L. Byrd and two others under sail just off Bloody Point in the Maryland waters of the Chesapeake Bay. These three wind-driven, commercial fishing boats are part of a dwindling fleet of oyster dredgers located in the Maryland waters of the Bay. The main subject of the print, the Nellie L. Byrd, was built in 1911 at Oriole, MD.

In 1822, Bloody Point Lighthouse was erected in seven feet of water to mark the southern tip of Kent Island. It was manned until 1960 when a fire gutted the structure. After a quick repair, the tower was automated and still serves as an aid to navigation.
