A handsome, heavy marine navigation lantern crafted in polished copper with a clear ribbed Fresnel glass lens and internal red filter. The top is clearly stamped:
ERIK OHLSSON — HÄLSINGBORG
and the domed lid bears a brass builder’s plate engraved 6395 M. The thick glass globe is also etched with the matching serial number. The interior retains its original oil burner housing (now fitted with a red inner chimney). Twin brass swing handles allow easy carrying and hanging; a threaded brass plug at the base provided fuel access or deck securing.
These large copper lanterns were built in Sweden in the mid-20th century for commercial vessels and lightships; they’re highly sought after today for yacht décor, coastal homes, and collectors of working ship lights. The size (about 18” tall × 10” diameter) and quality heavy copper construction make this a statement piece.
