Design: The protective cage around the glass is typical of seafaring lanterns, used to prevent damage in rough conditions.

Markings: In one of the close-up photos, you can see the embossed maker’s plate that reads PERKO – Perkins Marine Lamp & Hardware Corp. – Brooklyn, N.Y., U.S.A..

Use: These were mounted on vessels to show navigation lights (red for port/left side, green for starboard/right side, and white for masthead or stern lights). They could be oil/kerosene-fueled originally, later converted to electric.
