The mold for this pewter casting was from a baby lobster found in Scituate, Massachusetts. 

Clawed lobster comprise a family (Nephropidae, sometimes also Homaridae ) of large marine crustaceans. Lobster are economically important as seafood, forming the basis of a global industry that nets more than US $1 billion annually. Though several groups of crustaceans are known as "lobsters", the clawed lobsters are most often associated with the name.

The technique of replicating the exact shape of sea creatures was developed by Jeff Mitchell, a pewter smith who lives in Wellfleet, Cape Cod. All sea creatures are cast in a high grade lead-free pewter.
