U.S. Navy mess deck coffee cup, likely from the enlisted sailors’ mess.
Details:
-
The blue anchor insignia is the key identifier. This was a standard marking used on Navy issue dining ware for enlisted personnel.
-
The thicker, heavy porcelain design made the cup durable for daily shipboard use. Unlike the finer wardroom china used by officers, enlisted mess cups were built to withstand rough handling at sea.
-
The blue trim around the rim is consistent with Navy dining sets from the mid-20th century (WWII through the Cold War).
Purpose:
-
Used on U.S. Navy ships in the enlisted mess for coffee, tea, or other hot drinks.
-
Part of a complete Navy mess set that included plates, bowls, and trays, all marked with the Navy anchor.
