This authentic U.S. Navy compass binnacle was used aboard ship as a navigation instrument for lifeboats and emergency steering stations. Constructed from solid copper and brass to withstand harsh saltwater environments, it houses a gimballed magnetic compass visible through a protected glass viewing window.
A side-mounted oil lamp port allowed sailors to read the heading at night during underway operations. The original Bureau of Ships (BuShips) data plate confirms its manufacture during the World War II – Korea naval period (1940–1960s).
A rare, fully equipped naval navigational artifact — and a striking display piece for collectors, veterans, and maritime historians.
Dimensions: Approx. 10 inches long and 9.5 inches wide
